Gracie Sime - 12 Year Old Volunteer!

Gracie Sime with Toby
My name is Gracie Sime, I am 12 years old and have been involved in the 4-H Dog Project with Bev Pozega since I was in Kindergarten.
Me and my mom have been volunteering at Rivers and Bluffs Animal Shelter since it opened. Volunteering for me isn’t just a job. It’s something I look forward to all week.
Because I believe that all dogs deserve a home and since I can’t adopt them all, I really look forward to seeing them every Sunday. When I walk the dogs I don’t just take them out to go to the bathroom, I use my dog training skills that Bev taught me and I help make the dogs more adoptable, by teaching them to sit, shake, lay down, and not to jump.
It is also really exciting seeing them get forever homes. But I think that the best part is, is that Rivers and Bluffs Animal Shelter rescues dogs from Texas. My dog, Bailey, that I adopted from Rivers and Bluffs Animal Shelter, was a rescue dog from Texas. It feels good to know that I gave Bailey a forever home when she couldn’t find a home in Texas.
I encourage everyone to do what they can to give back to the animals in our community so that they find good homes too.
