Prairie Pool Puppy Paddle - Saturday, August 24, 2019

Celebrate the Dog Days of Summer at Rivers and Bluffs Animal Shelter’s 12th Annual Prairie Pool Puppy Paddle. The dog swim will be held at the Prairie du Chien Aquatic Park, located at 1401 E. Wells St. On Saturday, August 24th, “dogs will rule the pool” from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Rain date will be Sunday, August 25th.
This year, as in the past, small dogs (16 inches or less at the shoulders) will have the opportunity to enjoy the pool from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. without the larger breeds. The open swim for all dogs will start at 10 a.m. Small dogs are certainly welcome to stay and play, but by giving them their own hour they will have the chance to get a feel for the water without being intimidated by the larger retrieving breeds. Once inside the fenced area of the pool, dogs are allowed off leash and the fun begins.
Some dogs need no coaxing; they just run right in the 0 depth entry level pool. Other dogs are more content to walk in the shallow end of the pool, testing the waters so to speak. Dogs are welcome to jump off the edge, retrieve their favorite balls or just paddle the day away. Some dogs don’t even get their feet wet – they enjoy the dog park like atmosphere in the grassy areas and spend the day running
free and playing dog tag with their fellow canines.
This event is as much fun for spectators as it is for dogs and their humans. A food stand, offering delicious grilled brats and hot dogs, and beverages as well as treats for your favorite aqua-dog will also be available. A 50/50 raffle will also be held.
To ensure the safety of all participants, please keep the following in mind: only friendly, well-socialized dogs are welcome, flexi-leads and choke collars are not allowed, females in heat are not allowed and all dogs must wear buckle collars with ID tags. Dogs must be current on rabies, and DAP or DHLPP vaccinations. Proof of these vaccinations is required before dogs will be admitted. Bordetella (kennel cough) vaccination and a flea/tick preventative are recommended, but not required.
Participants are asked to print the online registration and bring the completed form to the pool to expedite the check-in process. Registration forms are also available at Rivers and Bluffs Animal Shelter which is located at 460 Cliffwood Dr. Prairie du Chien, WI. The shelter is open on Mondays and Fridays from 12-4, Wednesdays from 12-6 and Saturdays from 10-2
